Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
By Vicky- CheshireThis is a tradition in weddings in which bridesmaids or other members of the wedding party come together and buy gifts for the bride that match these sayings.
As a bridesmaid for my sister it is my duty to think about significant and important gifts that fall into the categories of old, new, borrowed and blue. The wedding is about eight months away but I want to start thinking of this immediately!
Something old
My memory isn't that good so thinking of something old to give to
the bride is quite challenging. The immediate thing that pops
into my head when 'something old' is said is photographs so I
will be rooting through all the old photo albums to find a
suitable one of me and her, preferably doing something that I
remember doing! Another idea is to somehow steal her first teddy
from her flat and keep it hidden until the big day. The bride is
very keen eyed so I wonder if she'll notice that I've taken her
beloved teddy bear.
Something new
Getting something new for the bride is supposed to symbolise the future of her and her husband. They have bought a new house so I could get them something that will help them settle in their new surroundings. That would be nice as sort of a double present to the bride and groom. I could get her some new jewellery but she has loads of jewellery already!
Something borrowed
I was thinking of leaving this to her other bridesmaid as it is one of her closest friends. I don't know what to do for this one! Has anyone got any ideas?
Something blue
This is a hard one as she's not got many blue items! Since the bride was born in March I could buy her a piece of jewellery which has aquamarine, her birthstone. I think this is quite tacky though and she would have the same opinion on it!
